 Bernie Lau Sensei is the founder of Icho Ryu Aiki-jujutsu and has provided training seminars internationally. A retired Seattle law enforcement officer, Lau began his martial arts training in Hawaii under Koichi Tohei in 1955, earning rank in aikido under Koichi Tohei, Morihei Ueshiba and other noted martial artists. He continued his studies with research into aiki-jujutsu, leading to the development of "Icho Ryu" with emphasis on practical techniques for law enforcement and military personnel. Lau developed many of the restraint tactics currently approved for use by Washington State law enforcement officers.
