Saturday, 26 September 2009 was a heck of a day for Seito Bugei Juku, Peterborough ON. Kim Taylor, NanaDan, Sei Do Kai Guelph ON was here to instruct members of the Central Ontario Iaido community. With the time restraint of two hours, Kim Taylor with the assistance of Dave Green, RoukuDan, Tateyama Ottawa ON and Pamela Morgan, Sei Do Kai Guelph ON demonstrated and explained all 12 Kata of the Zen Nihon Kendo Renmei Zen Ken Ren Iaido. His theme for the workshop was ‘Finding Waldo’. With this humorous theme, he would explain the relevance of tekki to improve the quality of kata performance in Iaido. Kim Taylor, Dave Green and Pamela Morgan demonstrated Koryu Iaido and Seitei Jodo at the end of the workshop, WOW!
Students from the local schools; Seito Bugei Juku; Jim Wilson’s Kenshokan Iaido; Andy Dobie’s Shorinji Kan Jiu Jitsu; and Paul Fox’s Chokushin Aiki Jujutsu supported the event. Peter Schramek, GoDan, JCCC, Toronto ON and Scotty Allen, Etobicoke Olympium Kendo/Iaido Club, Etobicoke ON came to train from out of town. In total, 18 practitioners received excellent instruction from Kim Taylor. A local member of the Sei Do Kai and long time friend of Kim Taylor and Dave Green, Chris Noonan was there and provided technical input. A special thank you to Peter Schramek, who instructed the nyumensha, giving them special attention they needed.
The workshop was a great success. Thank you Kim Taylor from all the participants and myself for the excellent instruction and insights you provided. Next year, this event will take place in the month of April. The plan will be to make it longer and include Koryu and Jodo.
